He is an American professional basketball player and NBA head coach. Paul Silas was best known for rebounding and being a defensive pillar on 3 N.B.A. championship teams.

He had a great physique. He stood at a height of 2.01 m and a weight of 102 kg. Paul Silas spent 16 seasons as a player, most notably with the Celtics, and was also LeBron James’s first coach as a professional.

The longtime NBA coach won 2 championships as a player with Boston and another with Seattle in the 1970s. Paul Silas was elected to the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2017.

He died at the age of 79 on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at his home in Denver. The cause was cardiac arrest, his daughter Paula Silas-Guy said.

Paul Silas is survived by Carolyn Silas, an entrepreneur, businesswoman, and volunteer for social justice causes. She was the honorary co-chair of the ‘Look at Her Power’ fundraiser for the ‘Dress for Success,’ organization in 2011, along with her husband.

Together, Paul Silas and his wife had three children, Donna Silas, Stephen Silas, and Paula Silas.
